Mobile Videos Marketing Potential
Last year was a very good one for Mobile videos, an unexpectedly good one to be honest. The number of video views from mobile devices has increased to such a degree in 2012 that marketing specialists all over the world are starting to see this as one of the main ways to promote a brand, product or service.
To give you a general idea of what I am talking about, in 2011 internet video views coming from mobile devices accounted for only 2% of total views. This is almost insignificant overall, with importance only in certain fields or industries considered niches.
Well, in 2012 this number grew over 6 times to a 12.3% percent of overall online video views. And we aren’t even including laptops into the category of mobile devices here. All these hits came exclusively from Tablets and Smartphones.
Now let’s dig a little deeper and see which platform is responsible for most views. As you would expect, this crown goes to iOS with 59% of video views. In second place is of course Android with 31%. The other 10% are split between Windows Mobile and BlackBerry. Most of Apple’s 59% is due to its iPad 4, iPad Mini and iPhone 5 releases. It was during that period that the number of mobile video views experienced a spike of over 30%. This means that if you are planning on releasing a mobile application and incorporating videos into it, you should first build it for iOS.
